About The Future Begins Today
The Future Begins Today was founded in Troy in 1993 as a not-for-profit organization designed to give the community's young people a better chance to succeed. Our programs assist parents, teachers and counselors by providing extra attention and motivation. We also help any qualified high school graduate in Troy, whether from public or private school, to further his or her education at a university, college, community college, vocational school or technical school.
What are the objectives of "The Future Begins Today?"
To motivate and encourage elementary, junior high school, and high school students to stay in school, to be regular in attendance and conscientious in academic work, and to plan to attend post-secondary education.
To assist school personnel in counseling high school students and their parents on how to select and apply to post-secondary schools, and how to access financial aid from those schools, from state and federal sources, and from charitable organizations.
To provide last-dollar grant assistance to qualified students who have demonstrated financial aid to a maximum of $1,200 per year per student for fours years.
To give recipients the opportunity to "repay" grants by engaging in community service, especially through work with younger students.
Who will benefit from "The Future Begins Today?"
Troy and Ohio will benefit because the vast majority of grant recipients will attend post secondary school in this area or in Ohio, because skilled workers make prosperous economies, and because educated citizens are the basis of strong communities and of our democratic society.
It is anticipated that many of the last-dollar grant recipients will be students who may not have been able to attend post-secondary school without counsel and/or financial assistance from "The Future Begins Today."
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of The Future Begins Today program is to provide mentoring and support for Troy community students willing to commit themselves to the pursuit of educational goals that foster life-long opportunities for success.
