Last Dollar Grants are awarded each year. For the 2004-2005 school year, there were 75 applications.
We awarded 54 Grants to 33 colleges, which vary from a few dollars to $1200. Their goals are just as varied, but the majority want to become teachers, nurses, community planners, ministers, and engineers. These are the young people who will become our community leaders in the future.
To qualify for the grant the student must be a graduate of THS or TCHS within the last 5 years. He/she must have a 2.0 grade point and show with official documentation the financial need for the grant. After the student has acquired the other monies thru loans, grants, scholarship, work, parents, etc, The Last Dollar Grant can help to narrow the gap for the amount needed to pay the tuition, room and board at the school of choice.
All of these students are obligated to maintain a good standing at their college, and to volunteer a minimum of 15 hours of service in the community of Troy.
